Jonesboro Heights Baptist Church partners with several local mission organizations in the Sanford / Lee County area through both financial contributions and volunteer involvment. Below is a list of the organizations we support.
Highway to Healing
Highway to Healing is a local mission that JHBC supports annually. Volunteers are from area churches, entities and neighborhoods who drive cancer patients to treatments on a daily basis, using their own vehicle. They are funded in part by United Way. Gasoline used is reimbursable. Highway to Healing is grateful for all volunteers and show their appreciation with a volunteer dinner once a year! To volunteer, call Jennifer Hogan - 919-619-8399; Gloria Peale – 919-775-2796; Marvin Joyner – 919-718-0124 or see the Family Bulletin Board for a list of others.
Meals on Wheels of Sanford
Since 1973, local churches have been supporting a Meals on Wheels program for residents living within the city limits of Sanford. Caring volunteers provide a hot, nourishing meal Monday through Friday to temporarily or permanently homebound persons who are unable to provide meals for themselves. Their mission is to promote the dignity and independence of the disabled, the elderly, and other homebound persons by personal contact and delivering economical, nutritious meals to their homes.
The Bread Basket
The Bread Basket had its beginning in 1989 and is supported by the generosity of people. Two fund raisers occur each year- a BBQ plate sale and the Temple Theater's sponsorship. Other help comes from the Food Bank, the World Second Harvest, and local farmers. Donations are received from Food Lion and Lowe's Foods. Restaurants - Bubbas, Pizza Hut, Starbucks, and Landmark and others give often. Volunteers prepare and serve the food. The highest number fed most recently was 197. The year Jonesboro Heights' budget giving was $843.03.
Operation Christmas Child
Each fall, our church kicks off September begins our kickoff to the OCC season. Our church provides a list of specific donation needs, volunteer opportunities, packing parties, and Collection Center signups. OCC shoeboxes take the Gospel message to children and families around the globe. A single shoebox filled with simple gifts can impact up to 10 people. OCC is a ministry for all ages! Collection week is in November and there will be a section on the website soon about how you can get involved.
